Pre-Prosthetic Surgery
The preparation of your mouth before the placement of a prosthesis is referred to as pre-prosthetic surgery.
Some patients require minor oral surgical procedures before receiving a partial or complete denture in order to ensure the maximum level of comfort. A denture sits on the bone ridge, so it is very important that the bone is the proper shape and size. If a tooth needs to be extracted, the underlying bone might be sharp and uneven. For the best fit of a denture, the bone might need to be smoothed or reshaped. Occasionally, excess bone may need to be removed prior to denture insertion.
One or more of the following procedures might need to be performed in order to prepare your mouth for a denture:
- Bone smoothing and reshaping
- Removal of excess bone
- Bone ridge reduction
- Removal of excess gum tissue
- Exposure of impacted teeth
We will review your particular needs with you during your appointment.
My 5 year old son had an extra tooth under his gums that needed to be removed. I was extremely worried because he would need to go under general anesthesia, and I didn’t know what to expect. Dr. Blake & his staff took care of my son very well and the procedure went very smoothly and so much quicker than I had expected. I was very happy with the outcome . Thank you guys very much ! - Bree J Your staff is wonderful! Everything was done with ease and handled professionally. My daughter was taken care of perfectly and put at ease for her oral surgery. - Kristin L These guys were extremely professional, recovery was not nearly as bad as was expected. Would definitely recommend to everyone - Laramie B I'm sure getting wisdom teeth removed is never fun, but I was very comfortable through the process. I understood what was happening and the staff did a great job of making sure I was comfortable and relaxed. - Grace BBlake Oral Surgery and Dental Implants
